FOOTWAYS for policy- and decision-makers

FOOTWAYS

FOOTWAYS is a company specialised in developing tools and methodologies for assessing the risk of pesticides being transferred to water resources and affecting drinking water quality or aquatic communities (fauna and flora). Our tools provide means to i) identify if given crop protection practices are likely to result in the contamination of water resources; and ii) recommend measures to put in place to limit the transfer of pesticides to groundwater and surface water.
The creation of FOOTWAYS is a direct follow-up of the success of the FOOTPRINT project which was funded by the European Commission as part of its 6th Framework Programme for Research and Development.

Policy support

The FOOTWAYS tools have been carefully designed to support current policy initiatives in the field of pesticides and the preservation of water quality. These include EU directives and their implementations in the various Member States:

  • the Water Framework Directive
  • the Framework Directive on the Sustainable Use of Pesticides, and in particular National Action Plans
  • the Common Agricultural Policy.

Innovative tools

The FOOTWAYS tools rely on the latest research findings and pesticide fate models which have been developed 20 years ago and been continuously improved and validated since. Yet the tools remain straightforward to use, and manage to be powerful and user-friendly at the same time. Our tools have been carefully designed to meet the expectations of all pesticide stakeholders.
