FOOTWAYS for Ministries

FOOTWAYS is specialised in the development of methodologies and software tools to estimate environmental risk related to pesticides and to identify those measures to put in place to limit the transfer of pesticides to water resources.

The different FOOTWAYS tools cover all spatial scales, from the national scale with tools for pesticides risk assessors and managers, to the catchment and regional scales, where water quality is the main issue, through to the farm scale where pesticides are used. The FOOTWAYS tools altogether form a coherent series to help identify locations and practices which contribute significantly to the contamination of water resources by pesticides.

The FOOTWAYS tools are ideal to support policy initiatives aimed at improving the quality of water resources with regard to pesticides (e.g. Water Framework Directive, Sustainable Use Directive). The tools can be used by both the agricultural and environmental sectors and provide a common reference to both communities. The FOOTWAYS tools are in particular ideally suited to support National Action Plans as part of the Framework Directive on the Sustainable Use of Pesticides.
