FOOTWAYS for Registration consultants

FOOTWAYS is specialised in the development of innovative methodologies and tools for pesticide risk assessment and management throughout Europe. Our approach is based on:

1. a detailed characterisation of agricultural areas where pesticides are used, resulting in typically thousands and thousands of "agro-environmental scenarios" which integrate information on climate, soil and crops.
2. the deployment of MACRO and PRZM for each of these agro-environmental scenarios. The modelling is undertaken on the FOOTWAYS supercomputer made of thousands of processors linked into a very effective pesticide fate modelling infrastructure. Our expertise in the automatic handling of large scale modelling activities combined with our unique supercomputer allow us to undertake highly-resolved pesticide risk assessments. This has resulted in the development of an interactive online platform fully dedicated to pesticide fate modelling and risk assessments: FOOTWAYS Pro.

FOOTWAYS Pro is designed to meet the exact needs of registration consultants and allow them to:

• specify the geographical extent of the assessment they want to carry out: a region, a country, different countries forming a zone (mutual recognition) or even the whole of the EU27;
• specify the environmental properties of the pesticides;
• launch corresponding modelling runs on the FOOTWAYS supercomputer;
• access modelling results in a general (statistics, charts, maps, probability of exceedance) or detailed (access to predicted daily time series for drainage, leaching and runoff) way;
• download the modelling results for further post-processing (for instance as part of higher tier risk assessments).

One of the specificities of FOOTWAYS Pro is that it can be used to run coherent risk assessment for the three zones established as part of the mutual recognition concept. You may for instance do a detailed evaluation for a country and benefit from more simplified assessments for the rest of the countries forming the zone.
